Jaraíz Winery

The name Jaraíz connects this winery with a word from traditional winemaking.

The guide to the Museo de Galera calls a jaraíz the domestic space where grapes were trodden and then pressed to extract the must. This task brought the vineyard harvest together with winemaking in family cellars. The tinajas then held the transformation of the must into wine. This stop offers a chance to recall that process and the knowledge built up around it: identifying the grapes, preparing the spaces and attending to the development of each harvest.

Galera’s wine culture can also be understood through these words, tools and practices that have accompanied its inhabitants.
